The Women's College Experience of the 1940s

It’s no surprise that as the world and country changed, as did the student body of Chatham. One of my favorite images that comes so early in the handbooks is a group of girls, sitting around in a dorm room smoking. These women, who were allowed to smoke indoors, also had to let desk attendants know anytime they had weekend plans outside their dormitories. They were also provided laundry services for a dime a week. Although times have changed drastically, and smoking indoors has been universally eliminated, those cartoon girls hold a chicness we can only strive to recreate.
