About This Site

"Europe '72: The Chatham and Hamilton Choir Summer Tour" is an effort to promote a unique event in the history of the Chatham Choir. With this exhibit, the University Archives showcases the superior accomplishment and immersive learning experience of performing with another choir in various countries overseas.

Research for this site was conducted by Katie Hetz '21 during her internship with the University Archives under the supervision of Molly Tighe, Archivist and Public Services Librarian. Sources consulted include archival resources available online from the Chatham University Archives including student newspapers, the Alumnae Recorder, student yearbooks from 1972-1975, as well as audio and photograph collections. Additional resources include newspaper articles from the Pittsburgh Press and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Sources about Hamilton Choir were generously provided by Katherine Collett, Archivist at the Hamilton College Archives, and included articles from the Hamilton Alumni Review. The opportunity to obtain recordings of the combined choirs was also provided. Most extensively consulted among the Hamilton sources was the article "Choir on the Continent," by Eric Thorkilsen '73, printed in the Hamilton Winter 1973 Alumni Review

Patrons are encouraged to explore the newly digitized Chatham Choir 1972 Photograph Collection
